Starbucks vs. Dunkin’: Turf War

Starbucks and Dunkin lovers will always be at war over which franchise is better. Dunkin is cheaper than Starbucks, but Starbucks coffee is stronger and arguably, better quality. From the small sample of Ledyard High School interviewed, Dunkin appears to be the coffee shop of choice.

Junior Allison Saindon claims, “Starbucks coffee is too strong.” This is something many Dunkin supporters say, preferring the mellow coffee to the strong coffee from Starbucks.

Dunkin Donuts also tends to be cheaper than Starbucks, which is always a plus for students. Starbucks gift cards can be a blessing when you want something stronger than Dunkin, but on a daily basis, students would rather go with the cheaper option.

Despite these points, English teacher Claire Malavazos argues, “Starbucks has a better variety.” The snacks and drinks are often more diverse than Dunkin, which could be nice if you don’t enjoy ordering the same thing every time you visit.

These snacks are also said to be a better quality than Dunkin’s, providing more fulfillment when you really want a nice, sweet pastry. Dunkin’s donuts are typically the only desirable food on their menu, whereas Starbucks always has many delicious options.

The response from the students shows that they care more about the cheaper prices and mild flavors of Dunkin than the variety of snacks and drinks of Starbucks. It wins over Starbucks because it is easier to purchase if someone just wants a little pick-me-up and a quick breakfast in the morning.
