Dunkin Banned!

Starting April 1, students who attend Ledyard High School will no longer be allowed to bring drinks or food from Dunkin’ into school. According to a new “rule” announced this week, teachers say the popular coffee and donut chain has become too much of a distraction during the school day.

Many students start their mornings with Dunkin’ iced coffee, refreshers, or donuts, but the supposed rule says those items will now have to stay outside the building. Staff members claim that spilled drinks, long morning lines and students arriving late with a drink or food item in hand from Dunkin’ are the main reasons behind this change.

When some students heard the news they had strong reactions while others didn’t seem to care as much. Many people said the rule would make mornings much harder, especially for students who stop for breakfast or drinks before school.

Teachers also had mixed feelings about the new “rule.”A couple said the school day could run more smoothly without sugary drinks and food in classrooms, while others admitted they also enjoyed grabbing Dunkin’ before the day had fully started and arriving at work. So teachers decided to make their own rule, that if students walk into class with Dunkin’ they will take it and either secretly keep it for themselves or they would resell it to other students.

Overall, the new rule has definitely caused many people to start talking. Whether people agree with the decision or not, it could change the way many students start their mornings. For now, students who normally walk into school with a cup from Dunkin’ may have to start thinking about other breakfast options before the bell rings. Only time will tell how students and staff adjust if the change officially takes effect on April 1.
