Stairs Are Being Replaced by Slides

Starting next Monday, Ledyard High School is going to be a lot more fun and exciting because all the stairs will be taken out and replaced with colorful slides! Yes, you read that right, instead of walking up and down boring old stairs, students and teachers will get to slide around the school building. This new idea is part of a big plan to make school more active, enjoyable, and creative.

Principal Fagan explained the reason behind this big change, “We want to make moving around the school a joyful experience. Slides are not only fun but also encourage physical activity, which is great for everyone’s health and happiness.” The school has worked hard to make sure the slides are safe and comfortable for all students, from the freshmen to the seniors!

Safety is a top priority. At the bottom of each slide, there will be soft, cushioned mats to make sure no one gets hurt. Teachers and staff will be nearby to help students use the slides properly. Everyone will be asked to slide one at a time, sitting down with their feet forward to keep things safe. If students want, they can wear helmets or knee pads for extra protection, and the school will provide these for free.

The slides themselves are bright and colorful, made from smooth, shiny materials that make sliding super fast and fun. Some slides twist and turn, while others are straight but long enough to give an exciting ride. There will even be slides that glow in the dark in certain hallways, making the experience feel like an adventure every day.

Teachers are already practicing sliding to their classrooms and say it’s a great way to start your day with a smile. Ms. Smith from the library says, “Sliding to class makes me feel like a kid again. It’s a fun way to get moving and helps wake me up in the morning!” Another teacher mentioned that slides help students feel more relaxed and happy, which can improve learning.

Students are filled with excitement. Many are planning to bring goggles, helmets and even special slide friendly clothes to school. The student council has organized a “Slide Day” event where students can compete in slide races and win prizes like slide themed stickers, hats, and water bottles. They’re also planning to decorate the school with slide themed artwork and posters to celebrate the new fun way of moving around.

The fun doesn’t stop there, the cafeteria is joining the fun too! They will offer special snacks and drinks inspired by the slides, like cookies shaped like slides, rainbow colored drinks, and even slide shaped sandwiches. The cafeteria staff will wear bright uniforms with slide designs, and there will be music and games to keep the excitement going during lunch.

Parents have shared their thoughts, saying this is a fantastic idea to get kids moving more during the day. They appreciate that the school is finding creative ways to make exercise fun and help students stay active. Many parents are looking forward to hearing stories about their kids’ sliding adventures at school.

This new slide system will change the way everyone experiences school. Instead of just walking from class to class, students and teachers will have a blast sliding through the halls, making every day a little more joyful and energetic. The school is becoming a place where learning and fun go hand in hand, and everyone is getting ready to slide into a fantastic school year!
