Preview of Winter Sports

Boys’ Basketball: The Ledyard boys are looking forward to a good start to the season with their first game on Dec. 19 at 2 p.m. Dave Cornish, the coach, is excited to start their new season. “Come out and support the Ledyard Colonels boys basketball team, Dec. 19! New squad, same mission,” Cornish tweeted.

Girls’ Basketball: The Ledyard girls are looking forward to a great start with their first game on Dec. 17 at 7 p.m. Come and watch the girls shoot some hoops and dribble the ball to victory! Key returners include Becca Ahlborn, Julia Lavin and Sarah Serbacewicz.

Fencing: Seniors Noah Hysong and Nicole Reinschmidt took first place at the East Lyme Winter Fencing classic last weekend. This looks like a good start for the returning fencers of Ledyard.

Indoor Track: On Dec. 5 the indoor track team started their first practice at 9 a.m. Megan Brawner and Josh Snow are excited to race into the new season in their final year. The team has several All-ECC athletes returning.

Ice Hockey: The team has a scrimmage in Newington on Dec. 13. Come and support the team!

Wrestling: Last year’s wrestling team made the state finals from the coaching of Steven Bilheimer. He is excited to see a new team and a new group of faces. He is also excited to add new techniques to strengthen the team’s overall performance. Even though I have been involved in this sport in some way for almost 30 years, I am constantly learning from others and through online sources,” he said.

Cheerleading: LHS cheerleaders cheer from the heart!” That is what cheer coach Lori Daugherty tells her team to live by. She is thrilled to be able to work on routines with the new and older cheerleaders. “In the past we have been very strong with our jumps and stunts, this year we are working hard on tumbling,” Daugherty said.
