Honey Has No Boo Boos

Since the summer of 2012, Honey Boo Boo has been taking on the world by storm. Honey Boo Boo’s real name is Alana Thompson, and her life is anything but ordinary. College Overdose?

About 70% of all students attend college after high school. The reason why, is because people who graduate from college are earning, on average, 52.2 thousands dollars per year, compared to people with a high school degree, who earn an average of  30.4 thousand per year. That is a big monetary difference. Although there are… Read More College Overdose?

On 27 Feb., Dakota Johnson, who portrayed Fifty Shades of Grey protagonist Ana, starred as a guest host of SNL for the first time. In one particular sketch, played in the style of a Toyota Camry advertisement, Johnson portrays a young girl leaving her dad, presumably for the military. Did the Musical Performances Steal the Show?

Glitzy dresses, fancy tuxedos, a star studded theater, and recognizing amazing movie-makers is what the Oscars are all about. But this year the musical performances seemed to speak louder than all of that. In honor of the 50 year anniversary of the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr., which was just four days before the… Read More Did the Musical Performances Steal the Show?

Does Pop Culture Negatively Influence Culture?

The culture of the millennial generation is blossoming. Social media has become one of several new mediums of self-expression. The smallest works can catch attention (see #crawsquad), and like a mosaic, they can become one of many small moments that make up who we are today. Thanks to YouTube, Twitter, Vine, Tumblr, etc., our culture… Read More Does Pop Culture Negatively Influence Culture?

Really Teaching History?

For hundreds of years in the US, people have been taught about the history of white people, but no one thought about teaching about African American history until 1920,  when Carter G. Woodson, son of former slaves and the second African American graduate from Harvard, founded Black History Month. African American history has more content… Read More Really Teaching History?

Are New Year’s Resolutions Overrated?

No: Every year in January, gyms and fitness centers all around the country receive a tremendous boost in business and membership as New Year’s resolutions are made, but by February if not mid January, all that bustle has died off. Just because they don’t always work out, that doesn’t mean New Year’s resolutions are pointless.… Read More Are New Year’s Resolutions Overrated?

Teacher’s Opinions in the Classroom

Have you ever been in a class where topics such as economy, politics, or religion were being discussed? Chances are, through an English or history or Civics course, the answer is yes. However, to me, there seems to be something lacking in such discussion on current problems in the world: teacher’s opinions. I don’t advocate… Read More Teacher’s Opinions in the Classroom

Grand Jury Makes Right Decision in Ferguson Case

Ever since Michael Brown was shot in Ferguson on Aug. 9, his home town has been in an uproar with violent protests. The riots intensified more after the decision of the grand jury to not indict Officer Darren Wilson, the police officer who shot Michael Brown, than after the shooting itself. These protests, however, while… Read More Grand Jury Makes Right Decision in Ferguson Case
