On Jan. 25, the girls’ basketball team won their eighth game against Killingly High School, qualifying them for States. This qualification came after a string of wins, from Windham to East Lyme.
“Seeing our hard work pay off is a great feeling,” senior captain Rebecca Ahlborn said.
Winning eight games was no small feat for the girls’ team. They’re usually the underdogs of the sports world, not getting as much hometown support as some of the others.
“We knew we were going to have to work very hard this year in order to make it,” Ahlborn said. “Everyone had to step up.”
The State Tournament date has yet to be announced. Key players include junior guards Kayla Kassim and Riley Pratt, sophomore Delaney Gagnon and freshman center Miranda Chesnut.
“We have been more successful than most people were expecting us to be,” sophomore Julia Lavin said. “The team is very excited for the rest of the season to come.”
