Ledyard’s Lambert Chases after Dream

Chorus teacher, Evan Lambert, walked out of the band room for the last time as the chorus teacher on Friday Feb.26. His time as a chorus teacher comes to an end as he goes to become a golf instructor at the Hartford Golf Club. Lambert had many students, between Women’s Choir and Final Cut, many of them were sad to see him leave.

“It was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make,” he said as he told his class of his departure. “I’ve always told you that you should never let an opportunity pass you by, I can’t be a hypocrite and not take my own advice.”

Although many of Lambert’s students were not thrilled about his leaving they understood his reasons. In his time at Ledyard, Lambert taught Women’s Chorus, played a major part in Final Cut and he coached JV boys’ soccer. Lambert supported his students in all of their endeavors, whether it be in the chorus room or on the soccer field.

“We will miss his talent, his creativity and his passion for the children of Ledyard,” Russell Hammond, Lambert’s colleague, wrote on the Ledyard Community Forum Facebook page. “His contribution to  the music department, the athletic program and to both LHS and Gallup Hill School was significant and I know we all wish him only happy trails.”

“I first met Lambert when I was in third grade. He’s been my favorite teacher, since then. While I’ll miss him I understand why he’s leaving, he taught me that when you see a chance, you take it,” freshmen, Nayeli Contreras a member of Women’s Chorus said. Now, it was time for the students to support their teacher. They supported Lambert in his decision to pursue this path. Even though it means his departure they understand that it was something he had to do, for himself.

“You don’t ever want to look back at your life and regret a decision not to follow your dreams,” Lambert said. When you get an opportunity to do something you want to do, you jump on that chance.”
