Seniors Hannah Lawrence and Liz Blodgett are both freelance models in the 2015-2016 school year. They recently discussed their new interest with The Colonel.
The Colonel: How long have you been modeling?
HL: I did my first shoot in the summer of 2014.
LB: I’ve been a signed model for about five months now.
The Colonel: What does a typical modeling day look like for you?
HL: There are many different types of shoots. During a shoot you change poses pretty quickly so a lot of times I think ahead. Hair and makeup can take some time but it all depends on the look — normally an hour and a half or more.
LB: It depends on the job. There are photo shoots, but also fashion shows and other types of shows. A fashion show usually consists of being in hair and makeup for about an hour and then one or two shows in one day. A show is usually about 30 minutes long and then a break between and then back for the next show! A photo shoot again is being in hair and makeup for a while and then shooting time. It depends on the client, but photo shoots can literally last all day in order to get the right shots and the right lighting. It’s more work than people would think, but it’s always a lot of fun.
The Colonel: Are there any models you look up to for inspiration?
HL: Cara Delevingne and Adriana Lima. Cara Delevingne is so original and unique and Adriana Lima is just so incredibly beautiful.
LB: I love Kate Upton. When people think of models they think of stick skinny perfect girls, but Kate Upton is an extremely successful model who embraces her natural curves! I’m definitely inspired by her.
The Colonel: Do you plan on continuing modeling next year?
HL: Yes. I am going to college and it is more of a hobby. School will always come first.
LB: Yes! I plan to continue part-time modeling throughout college so I can still make some money!
