Recently, we’ve seen a lot of 90s fashion trends come back and become more stylish than ever. While the 90’s have had a bad reputation for fashion due to some garish colors and cringy patterns, there’s nothing like a little nostalgia. While some of these have caused tension between millennials and gen-z kids, there’s no doubt that the fashion world will continue to circle and bring us new, old, bold, and sometimes questionable fashion trends.
Baggy is Back
Slim-cut and skinny jeans quickly lost their place in the fashion world the past few years. Mom jeans, boyfriend jeans, and cargo pants are all in and there’s something for all tastes and styles. Celebrities from Bella Hadid andHailey Bieber, to Dua Lipa have all been seen rocking the baggy jeans look. And who can blame them? They’re comfy, cute, and they ease you out of your usual sweatpants without restricting you into the old skinny jeans.
Platform Sneakers
The Spice Girls are really the blueprint for this one and everyone is thrilled about it. Platform sneakers have truly cemented themselves as a huge fashion trend in the past year and what’s not to love? You get a good height boost without having to balance yourself on a little heel and they look good with almost any outfit. Someone we almost always see wearing a platform is pop star Ariana Grande. Her short stature probably plays a big role in her shoe choice but she never misses when it comes to style.
Bucket Hats
The bucket hat became popular in the 80s among rappers and became part of everyday street fashion during the 90s. Now, the nostalgic value of the bucket hat has been integrated into the current generation. We’ve seen singers, actors, and even high fashion models on the runway stunting in their bucket hats. Its flexible wear, range of color and texture, and chill aesthetic allows everyone to make their own individual statement.
Fanny Packs
Fanny packs were out of style and now, they’re back in and people are wondering why they were ever abandoned. They’re cute and they’re practical! After making a comeback, we have seen a wide range of styles of the accessory to choose from. Whether you are looking for a sleek, fashionable style bag to integrate into your everyday wardrobe or a classic, tourist inspired fanny pack, there’s something for you.
Small Sunglasses
Although some find them funny, small skinny sunglasses have secured their place in the fashion world and plan on staying. Celebrities like Rihanna, Kendall Jenner, the Hadid sisters, and even social media influencers like Emma Chamberlain, have definitely played a role in bringing back the look. They’re sleek, classy, retro, and can make a great touch to almost any outfit.
Scrunchies
Although they’re not being stacked up quite as high on ponytails like they were in the 90s, scrunchies can be seen almost everywhere now! They had a huge resurface in the summer of 2019 mostly due to the “VSCO girl” trend seen across social media during the time, but have continued to stick around since. Hailey Bieber is one person known for rocking the scrunchie look on the red carpet.
Mini Backpacks
During the 90s, mini backpacks were huge to teenage girls and with all the different colors, styles, and designs, they even became collectables. Since making a comeback, designer brands like Gucci and Louis Vuitton have even released their own versions of mini backpacks. The mini backpack is cute, easy to carry, fun, doesn’t take up too much space, and they come in almost every pattern and color!
It’s been 30 years since the 90s began and it’s only proved to us how much impact it had on the fashion world. Whether you like to dress up or keep it casual, there’s a 90s trend that’s for you and nothing can stop the icon decade from having a say in today’s fashion trends.
