September As and Fs

As and Fs is a report card containing grades for certain school events that happen throughout the month. All ratings are based on our own opinions and no statistics. Every month we will have another report.

A+ to Marching Band

On September 20, the Ledyard Colonel Marching band attended the “NFA Classic” band competition. While on their way to a second-place finish, they made Colonel history, winning not only Best Music but also Best Percussion Caption Awards. These are both firsts in our program’s history!

A to our Boys’ Soccer team

Our boys’ soccer team is off to an amazing start, “It was easy to make connections and friends,” freshman Andrew Lupos said. The team is currently undefeated, and even from the bleachers watching, you can feel the team’s chemistry.

A  to September Clubs

So far this year, there’s been a good selection of clubs for students to attend. There are clubs that range from the new guitar club to the math team, with options in between. The Key Club has been very active and has had more people joining the club than they have in the last few years. Their leaders were just elected, so if you have any questions you can reach out to their president, Alisa Starkova, or vice president, Sang Do.

C to our first home football game

Unfortunately, Ledyard did not win our first game, but the players still felt proud of themselves, “We came to the game hyped, the atmosphere was amazing with all the fans showing up and supporting the team. I was mad we lost, but I was glad the team didn’t give up,” junior Jamel Kearse said.

C to our Senior Sunrise

Senior Sunrise is a morning where the seniors meet up for breakfast and to watch the sunrise. This year’s Senior Sunrise didn’t have the best weather and not too many attended but overall, for the people who did participate, it was still a good time.

F for the Heat Wave

Teachers and coaches struggled to maintain their classes and practices with the intense heat wave lasting for about a week. [Laughing] “It was brutal in ceramics as it’s a physically demanding class. It was hard to motivate students when I, myself, was miserable,” said Mrs. Marciano, an art teacher here at LHS.

F to the Yellow Jacket “attack”

As everyone is probably aware, the yellow jackets have been extra annoying and persistent. They’re bothering outside sports and gym classes. Ms. Lehet reached her “highest bee sting record” with seven bee stings during her soccer practices. During one of his gym classes, Mr. Serichio had a bee fly into his ear. He recounts his experience saying, “Panic ensued. I thought the worst but quick reaction on my part ensured no harm was done.” Not only are the Yellow Jackets a bother outside, but they are starting to invade the classrooms. Mr. Casertano said that his “room is inundated with bees, flies, and even a hummingbird.”
