Student Spotlight: Jaden Michael Sebastian

You’re just an average Ledyard High School student walking down the hall on the way to class when out of nowhere you feel this ominous presence behind you. You look behind you just to see nobody’s there, so you keep it moving. But all of a sudden, you feel a tap on your right shoulder. You snap your head to the right and once again see no one. You pick up the pace as your palms begin to sweat and paranoia kicks in. You take a sharp left turn only to be met with shock as you realize you just bumped into Jaden Michaell Sebastian I, Ledyard High’s one and only bat fanatic. Jaden is no ordinary student; he is a passionate and enthralling character with an extreme love of bats, the color purple, and Spiderman. Today, I will add some insight into the amazing world of Jaden Michael Sebastian.

Q1: When did your obsession with bats start?

A: Well, it all started when I was looking up cat facts, and then I thought, what rhymes with cat? Oh bat, so I looked up bat facts and never stopped.

Q2: Has your obsession with bats changed over time?

A: No

Q2: Would you describe it as constant 24/7 or on and off?

A: I would say a constant 24/7, like I’m itching to find out more about bats, and when I don’t, I feel like there’s something missing, like I forgot to do something or something is lacking

Q3: What is your current favorite bat?

A: The Hoary bat. I like this bat because there are only two species of bats that occasionally run into barbed wire and this is one of them. And the name means old or coming of age.

Q4: Why do you like the color purple so much?

A: Oh easy; it all started at a very young age when I used to hate snails. Then I learned that in the olden days, the color purple was made from thousands of snails. Ever since then, I fell in love with small slices of life history facts. And so now, I appreciate the color purple for getting me interested about that type of history

Q5: Why do you like Spider-Man so much?

A: I like how Spider-Man does the right thing even though he has no benefits to doing so. See, Batman is rich, so he can just do whatever, but Spider-Man doesn’t have that insurance. He actively ruins his life to help other lives and I like that

Q6: Who is your favorite Spider-Man and why?

A: Easily the OG Peter Parker. He embodies the aspect of him doing the right thing even though he hasn’t gotten anything back in return No other Spider-Man has suffered the way he has by being Spider-Man

Q6:So the more suffering the better?

A: Yeah. Though I must say it’s kind of getting annoying with how much the writers of the comics are making him suffer post “one more day.” Sad times for Spidey

When did you start drawing?

A: In Pre-K when I got a box of crayons.

Q7: What did you draw?

A: A colorful scribble.

Q8: What’s your favorite thing to draw?

A: I like to draw Spider-Man because of how dynamic his poses are. Also, because it’s Spider-Man.

Q9: What’s your favorite thing right now at this moment?

A: The Marvel Spider-Man 2 game that just came out.
