Seniors in high school are obviously always excited for the end of the school year. After all, the end of their school year means no more getting up at 5 or 6 in the morning, no more classwork, and no more being in a place they don’t want to be in for seven hours of their day, but those aren’t the only reasons.
One senior, Klaire Gieleghem, who was interviewed, said, “The best thing about being a senior is knowing that graduation is coming up, and knowing I can soon pursue a degree in animation.” This was one of the more unique answers given.
Another senior, Billy Sharpe said, “There’s more freedom. I could walk into classes and say hi to teachers, and teachers give you more of a leeway with things that freshmen would probably get into trouble for,” which is another pretty unique answer. Lots of seniors, like Emrys Armstrong and Ahlanna Martins, have said “Senior lounge, because of getting to go home early,” and “Being closer to freedom because we get to leave school.”
One senior, Samantha Palmer, said that the best thing about being a senior is “Being an upperclassman.” When asked to elaborate, she said, “We get more freedom, and actually have money.”
Another senior, Kate Littler, was asked what the best thing about being a senior is, and she said, “Getting to enjoy time in school more, and it’s a lot less crazy.”
During lunch, another senior, Dominick Botts, was asked what his three favorite things about being a senior were, and he said, “Having more freedom, and even though we have more responsibilities, it slowly gets us ready for college.” The next senior interviewed with the same question was Josiah Estriplet. His answer was “Senior lounge, lunch, and getting to be more of a leader or role model for others.”
Noah Nelson, another one of these seniors, said that he likes how “Relationships with teachers because when you get to know them and bond, they’re really chill.”The last senior interviewed was Josephine Withbroe, and when asking her what the best thing about being a senior is, she said, “Classes are a lot easier, and there’s less work but more freedom.”
The month of May is the month of celebrating seniors, and this is one of the many ways we can try to celebrate our seniors. These seniors are coming to the end of their fourth year in high school. They have been hard working, persistent, and have persevered throughout all four years of high school, and that is coming to an end. Pretty soon, they’ll be graduating, and then they won’t have to worry about being late for school, getting homework done, or anything to do with still being in high school.
