The Colonel Newspaper was launched in 1973 by the late Ledyard High School teacher Lance Rockefeller.

In the 2014-15 school year, the newspaper shifted to an online platform and transformed into The Colonel Newsmagazine.

The news site is run by Ledyard High School's Journalistic Publications I & II.
