#heforshe

Famous actress Emma Watson has been all the rage lately for a recent speech she made at the United Nations (UN) headquarters.Watson was appointed as a UN Women Global Goodwill Ambassador, a position held by many other famous people who use their fame to help important social and humanitarian issues.

Through Watson’s powerful speech, she launched a campaign against gender inequality called the “HeForShe” campaign that predicts the problem can be solved by the year 2030. This campaign knocks down the presumptions that feminism is synonymous with “man-hating” or misandry. Feminism, by definition, is the belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities.

Not only is gender inequality an issue for women, but it is also an issue for men as well. When males express their emotions, they are often told to “man-up” or even called “wimps.” Men are taught to hide their emotions and HeForShe aims to eliminate this stereotype by bringing social, political, and economic equality for men and women all across the world.
