As basketball season approaches the halfway mark, senior Varsity basketball players all share one goal: scoring their 1000th point. This impressive career accomplishment is achieved by consistent scoring in each game through the course of four years. For Senior Michelle Klinikowski, this accomplishment came as a surprise.
“It was really exciting the night I knew I was close,” Klinikowski said. “I never thought I would be able to do that, so it was exciting when they announced it.”
An individual goal, however, cannot be achieved without a supportive team and family.
“I love my teammates and family,” Klinikowski said. “They made it even more special; they’re all so sweet and happy for me.”
Klinikowski entered the basketball season with a successful final volleyball season behind her. The Ledyard Colonels were the ECC Large Champions for the second year in a row, and Klinikowski was named MVP of the game.
“After volleyball I was very excited for basketball,” Klinikowski said. “I love the girls on the team so much. We lost a lot last year, so I wasn’t sure how the season would go, but everyone is really stepping up and contributing a lot.”
This fall, Klinikowski will attend Boston University, a Division I program, and will play volleyball on a scholarship. “I’m very excited,” Klinikowski said in an interview with The Day. “I love traveling [especially with a team], so it’ll definitely be fun.”
