Junior Kenneth (Ken) Turner is new to the game of soccer. For the first two years of Turner’s athletic career at LHS, he has been a three-sport athlete. This year, however, he decided to take a step back from football and try soccer.
This was all very new to him, since he has always been considered a “football player” by people around the school. Therefore, when people heard that he wasn’t playing football, many were surprised. During the summer football workouts, Tuner wasn’t showing up. Turner said that since he wasn’t planning to play football in college, he would rather not spend a majority of his time practicing/playing football. He still wanted a fall sport however, one that wouldn’t take up as much time, so he decided to join the soccer team.
“I like it a lot,” Turner said on the subject of soccer.
When Turner was asked how he felt about switching sports, he said, “It’s a tough transition to just switch sports halfway through high school, but with support from teammates and coaches I’ve felt comfortable through it. I like my teammates. They bring a positive attitude every day to work and I feel like, as a team, we have a goal set that we want to achieve, and won’t stop until we get there.”
Even though soccer is new to Turner, he happens to be pretty good at it. In fact, Turner starts varsity as goalie for the Ledyard High School soccer team. This is a pretty difficult feat considering there were other goalies that he was competing with for the spot and those goalies have been playing soccer longer. Turner has already proven himself as a great soccer athlete and is sure to accomplish a lot.
