Senior Wrap-Up

There are two months left of high school for the seniors, and the end of this year is coming quickly. It is true when they say high school goes by fast, so enjoy it because many forget that after high school, there is nothing else in life like school; after that, you go on in life by yourself. Nobody is there to hold your hand to cross the street; it’s the beginning of adulthood, and it can be scary. Growing up, nobody realizes how eye-opening life can be since we’ve been occupied for 12 years straight, getting told instructions and how or what to do, just following rules. The thing is, many take that for granted because school provides so much to help guide students while also improving their character development with the help of counselors, after-school activities, clubs, and sports.

As a senior, something I wish I did more in school was participate more and do more clubs or activities, because one year of track and field had a huge impact. Doing things like that opens you up to so many new experiences with new people, and it gives you so many different opportunities to explore. Senior Akhona Dube recommends, “Get to the big project Capstone early and complete all important classes to make the senior year easy and stressless. Making sure work is being turned in on time or done before the deadline benefits in several ways.” Senior Ayden Barrier says, “The end of his senior year is surprisingly saddening to reach the end of his senior year, although I will be staying in touch with those I care about.” Another senior, Addison Aldana, explains, “Senior year, being my last, feels surreal because it went by so fast. Before I graduate, I want to enjoy what’s left, not make it any more of a struggle.”

As seniors, there is a lot to process as the year is coming to an end, being pushed into adulthood without even really realizing it or being prepared. Even after high school, everyone is still growing up together and has a lot to learn about new skills and talents. Going through and figuring it out, like going into adult life with taxes or working with babies. Making your last year count as a senior is important, almost like a movie, just make the most out of it and cherish the memories while making new ones. Starting new may be scary, but it is also a huge opportunity to have a fresh start and begin differently. Only you get to choose what path you want to follow in life, and you have time to make it the best you can.

This is the transition point in life that makes you an adult now, and it is scary because you’re used to a routine set up for you; it may be stressful thinking about what’s next.  On the contrary, it feels like freedom has just been dropped into your hands, like you know what to do with it, but the feeling of being overwhelmed is normal. Now you are starting a new chapter in your life, and it will be messy, chaotic, and emotional at the same time, but that’s the best part.
