The Perfect Prom

Prom is right around the corner for Ledyard High School. On May 9 and 15, students will dress up and go dance. Many people have been preparing for months, whether that entails buying dresses and suits or scheduling hair and nail appointments.  LHS students have a lot to say about prom, how to prepare, and what they love about the timeless event.

Seniors Aleecia Helme and Riley DePasquale have already been to prom once, and they have wise words of advice for juniors. DePasquale says, “Test your makeup and hair.” Many students do their own hair and makeup, but it is important to do a trial run to make sure you can do it the way you like and that the products work. This is important because you don’t want to be stressed out or have a hair emergency an hour before it’s time for pictures. Helme was very adamant about staying calm. “Calm down,” she says, “you’re going to have a bad day if you stress, just calm down.” It can be overwhelming trying to juggle getting ready, taking pictures, and figuring out plans with your friends. Even though there is a lot going on,  all the events should be fun, so make sure to stay calm. Taking DePasquale’s and Helme’s advice will allow you to approach prom positively and be ready to have a good time.

Junior Olivea Shelton also shared what she will do to make sure she has a great, stress-free time. Even though it is her first prom, she is taking control and allowing herself to have fun. In agreement with Depasquale and Helme, Shelton says, “Make sure to prepare everything, figure out what you are doing with your friends, make sure you have your hair, makeup, and dress ready.” Preparation is key to tackling the dance and having a good time. There are some great ways to enjoy it and have a good time as well.

Other seniors had lots of fun at their junior prom last year. After looking forward to attending for so long, it was definitely a night to remember. To get their classmates excited about their senior prom, London Littlefield and Madison Soucier were willing to share their favorite experiences of it. Littlefield said that her favorite part of prom was “dancing,” and Soucier’s favorite part was “hanging out with friends.” This year, Littlefield will be dancing all night in her green dress, and Soucier’s pictures with her friends will be complemented by her purple suit. They are looking forward to enjoying the dance in a few weeks.

The clock is ticking to find a dress, design your hair, schedule a nail appointment, and make plans with your friends. Don’t delay these tasks because you want to be calm on a day that is supposed to be memorable. Use the end of your time in high school to have fun, make memories, and most importantly, “Stay calm.”
