Dexter (2006-2013)
Dexter follows Miami-based blood splatter analyst and sociopath Dexter Morgan as he identifies and murders the vile criminals that law enforcement has failed to capture. The show realistically captures Dexter’s attempts to conceal and protect his identity both as a serial killer and as an emotionless shell of what a regular person might be like. Dexter ended with a bang in 2013, and has been missed ever since. It could be interesting to see what our beloved character is up to a few years down the road.
The Family (2016-2016)
The Family is a beautifully painful story of the love and loss of your most precious thing, your child. The show surrounds the Warren family, who, a decade ago, lost their eight-year old son, Adam. After years of his presumed death, Adam’s family has found a way to “function” as well as they can on the outside, and appear happy. One day, Adam seemingly escapes his captor and finds his family once again. However, there is more than meets the eye, and Adam’s return is a catalyst for pain and deceit. The single season that aired was an amazing maze of emotional turmoil, as well as an exploration of what it means to be a “bad” person. The thriller series ended after only 12 episodes due to the lack of audience and matching ineffective advertising. Nevertheless, it is deserving of many more seasons.
Castle (2009-2016)
Castle surrounds celebrated mystery novelist, Richard Castle and NYPD police officer, Kate Beckett, as the two solve murders together, all the while building an unorthodox partnership, which in time mutates into a strong relationship. The show, which aired for eight years, was a fun, light-hearted, mystery-comedy mix that brought a comedic aspect to both death and law enforcement. However, leading up to its demise, the series suffered a loss in viewership. Rumors also circulated that the leading actor and actress had had a quarrel, and soon after, Castle was cancelled. RIP. :’ (
The Office (2005-2013)
The Office followed the lives of employees at the Dunder Mifflin Paper Company in Scranton, Pennsylvania through their relatable (and comedic) emotional affairs. The sitcom ran for nine seasons and generated an astounding 201 episodes, receiving widespread praise and enthusiasm from fans. It is safe to say that many would be pleased to see more, considered the show’s fan base consisted of over five million devotees.
The Vampire Diaries (2009-2017)
The Vampire Diaries follows brothers Damon and Stefan Salvatore through the story of their lives prior and post-death and transformation into vampires. The show also captures the shared love interests of these brothers, along with an inclusion of realistic historical fiction. The Vampire Diaries richly explores family relationships, friendships, love, and sacrifice – and forces you, little by little, to fall into a love and nostalgia with each character. The series came to a close in its finale on Mar. 10 — and is already missed, dearly.
