Spirituality. Another form of religion that many people today have begun following, including myself. Over the past year I have fallen in love with the idea of spirituality. Believing in spirituality is the idea of not necessarily believing in God, but believing in a higher power. As you may have seen on social media or have heard from others, crystals have become very popular, but what you might not know is that they aren’t just pretty rocks.
Crystals help heal the body and mind. Sophomore Tabby Smith agrees and says, “They make me feel protected and are very pretty, I also like to collect them and I have different ones for certain things.” Freshman Amy Avery also agrees and says, “I like to look at them and I think that spirituality connects people closer together.” There are so many different crystals that can help with many different things such as depression, anxiety, self-esteem, confidence, peace, physical health and more.
For example, one of my favorite crystals is “tiger’s eye.” “Tiger’s eye” helps release the feeling of stress and anxiety you may be feeling, and gives you balance in your life. “Tiger’s eye” is also good at helping you come to terms with the people and environment you surround yourself with and making decisions that may be good for you. Another thing you may know about are tarot cards, which people use to gain insight on their future or past. People use tarot cards to give others or themselves readings, in which they can tell them information on what their fortune might be within a week, month or year.
Deciding to be spiritual is mainly all about cleansing the mind and being at peace with yourself. Whether you do that by meditation, yoga, or doing anything that you consider to be calming. Many people have said that since they have become spiritual, they have changed into a better person and have become more at peace with their inner-self. Senior Chloe Mingoia, who has also begun to follow the path of spirituality says, “I think I’ve realized how to focus more on the positive or try to remove myself from conflict. I’ve been more relaxed and peaceful, and I’ve been more aware of myself.” As you can see, spirituality can impact people’s lives in huge ways and really is a way to resolve inner conflicts in a less traditional way.
Despite this, spirituality is not for everyone. Some may say that crystals are just rocks and that believing they will heal you sounds crazy and is a stupid idea. Senior Connor Keefe, who does not follow the path of spirituality, says, “It is just dumb, and it doesn’t make any sense.” Although he and others may think that, if you are feeling stressed or need to relax, focusing on yourself and really healing your mind could be for you. With the school year just starting, stress levels are rising, and spirituality might help put your stress at ease.
