One of America’s biggest threats has always been the danger of deer running headfirst into cars. Oddly enough this danger changes throughout the seasons and it begs the question: why is this such a problem in our great nation? To go over why deers run into cars so much, many factors and variables need to be discussed.
The first factor that needs to be discussed is the geographic problem. The areas where deer dwell are often directly next to a road or traffic lane. This gives the deer ample time to prepare to run headfirst into the cars and cause a large amount of fatalities. Some advice credible sources give to avoid this is to slow down, try to be one step ahead of the deer, and use your horn to scare off the deer with a loud noise. States to be most scared of would be Texas which houses 5.5 million deer, and North Carolina which houses around a million deer. If one ever finds themselves in these areas remember the tips above and use them to avoid dangers.
Deers that are also in the middle of the road oddly enough have a hard time even recognizing the cars that are coming at them; this is due to the bright lights and even the seasons changing. Oftentimes these collisions are nighttime collisions and this causes both the driver and the oncoming deer to not see each other in time to react. Some recent theories that people have come up with are a little more out there such as the idea that deer have yet to completely adapt due to how recently cars have been made in the grand scheme of time. In the springtime deers reportedly have “squirrelly” brains and act far more unpredictably so one must remain vigilant.
Ultimately, the danger of deer has been common for many years but Americans have prevailed time and time again. In the modern day, the newest conflict between man and deer is the roadways. This article has gone over how urgent this is becoming and the actions our nation should take to prevent the fatalities coming from deer each year. Deer do not like to be hit by cars but they will hit cars.
