The students of Ledyard High School traveled to multiple destinations worldwide during their spring break, including both tropical beach locations and historical urban centers. Every journey travelers experienced had unique qualities, yet all journeys offered new experiences, tasty food, and exciting activities.
Adrienne Kennedy, a sophomore, went to Costa Rica with the school. She went horseback riding and zip-lining. “The zip line was scary because it was about half a mile long.” Kennedy visited multiple beaches while living in basic conditions, which required her to sleep on cots, and added that “the food was good, even though I mostly ate chicken and rice for nearly every meal.”
Freshman Ev Beltre spent her break with family in Rome, along with a visit to Venice, which she said was her favorite place. “I extended my stay in Rome because my train cancellation prevented me from reaching my destination,” Beltre said. She took a gondola ride through Venice while she admired the beautiful sights of the city. Beltre’s menu for the day included pasta, pizza, and pastries. The trip experience started with warm weather, but the rain showers occurred frequently throughout her journey.
Junior Maddie Thomasson traveled with her family to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She visited the Christ the Redeemer statue, which stands as one of the Seven Wonders of the World. “I visited a botanical garden that had monkeys, and I also went to Sugarloaf Mountain to enjoy the dining options and scenic views. I spent time at Copacabana Beach, and I noticed that many meals included steak and chicken,” Thomasson said.
Overall, students had a variety of spring break experiences, from relaxing on beaches to exploring new cities. Even when plans didn’t go perfectly, like canceled trains or scary zip lines, each trip created lasting memories.
