The Health Benefits of Participating In a Spring Sport!

After spending the cold months inside and the school year wrapping up, students are losing motivation for school responsibilities. Instead of counting the days until summer, it’s actually the perfect time to get into spring activities especially for the future freshmen looking for ways to get involved. Getting involved in sports keeps students focused and makes the most of the final month of the school year.

Spending time outside and in the sunlight has multiple great benefits, especially after seven hours indoors with a busy mind. Being in the sun increases serotonin levels, which helps fight anxiety, depression and, overall, improves  mood. Time outdoors moving the body gives the brain a break, so when it’s time to go home to do homework students have a fresh start.

One of the keys to boosting one’s mood is being healthy. Sunlight is a great way for the body to produce vitamin D, this supports strengthening bones and supporting a healthy immune system. Physical movement also strengthens the muscles, tendons, and ligaments which improves joint mobility and makes your body altogether stronger.

Spring is when the days get busy and there’s very little time for rest. Focusing on getting the big assignments due on time and studying for tests it’s hard to wind down the brain. Doing sports increases  energy levels to get those assignments done, but it also improves sleep. It helps with resting by reducing the time spent awake after falling asleep, so you are not waking up throughout the night. Regular exercise also lowers cortisol levels which calms theyour mind and body down, providing peopleyou with a deeper sleep.

Spring sports bring tons of new opportunities and give you ways to grow outside of the classroom. It pushes you to stay active and consistent, beyond the physical benefits it helps reduce stress, boost confidence and create long-lasting friendships and memories. Sports can positively change you now and in the future.
