And the Award Goes to…

FFA (Future Farmers of America) and our Agriscience program is a proud part of our mighty Colonel family. On one night a year, we celebrate all the students and their accomplishments throughout the year. FFA is a large organization that prepares students for a life in agriculture; to be a member of FFA, students must be enrolled in our Ag science program. FFA awards night will be held Thursday, May 24 at 7:00 pm at Ledyard High School. Come and support the Ag students and show Colonel pride!

FFA awards night is an end of the year banquet for members. “One of the awards goes to an exemplary freshman, which I think is super important to keep them motivated,” Ag student sophomore Kendall Chrzanowski says about the awards night.  At the banquet they honor officers who have served. They also appoint the new officers for next year. The current president, senior Shelby Olsen, gives her retiring speech and recaps on all the fantastic events that have happened throughout the year. The new president gives a speech to introduce their new goals for the upcoming year. During the ceremony, merit-based scholarships are given out to upperclassmen who have contributed a lot to the FFA program. When students were asked about their favorite moments in FFA many said they enjoyed the welcome back picnic, “It was a lot of fun being able to reunite with my Ag friends that I wasn’t able to see over the summer,” Chrzanowski commented. “I think that by having new officers it will be a fresh opportunity for new people to give new ideas to the program and bring new events to the table and unite more students in the Ag program,” Chrzanowski had to say. Overall, FFA awards night is a great night to come support the seniors going off to new adventures and cheer on the new officers in their induction to office.
