After a long 13 years of not having gymnastics at Ledyard High, it’s back! This winter, Ledyard High has three girls competing against other schools in different gymnastics events at ABC Shoreline Gymnastics. Juniors Abby Millbach and Lexi Laperle join forces with senior Mikayla Fors, as they work hard and are dedicated to represent Ledyard High School.
When asked if it was hard going back to gymnastics after taking a four-year break, Lexi Laperle responded saying, “It was hard going back because skill-wise I didn’t have much and it was tough to get the requirements needed.” Abby Millbach shared similar concerns that Lexi faced after rejoining, and she also added, “But after the first practice it was like I never stopped.”
The girls practice three times a week for two and a half hours; they all compete individually which means they can’t win team awards, but can win individual events and the all-around. The girls compete in the all-around which means they do events including bars, beam, floor, and vault. “My favorite event is vault because I’m best on that event,” says senior Mikayla Fors.
The girls are working hard and making Ledyard High proud. The girls normally compete on Wednesday at ABC Gymnastics in East Lyme, Connecticut.
