Senior Spotlight: Sara Tomis

Sara Tomis is a dedicated member of Ledyard High School’s agri-science program, and is our school’s secretary of the Future Farmers of America (FFA)

The Colonel: What activities are you involved in?

Tomis: I do 4-H and am part of the 4-H fair board. I am the secretary of the Future Farmers of America, and a part of the Seed Library committee, which worked with the Bill Library.

The Colonel: What made you decide to join the FFA?

Tomis: Every since I was four, I always wanted to be a vet. Also, since we didn’t have a high school in our town, Preston, I decided to come to Ledyard for the agri-science program. Yes, I learned how to milk a cow, but I also learned how to be a good public speaker, advocate for myself, and how to be a leader.

The Colonel: What other factors brought you to Ledyard?

Tomis: I was very attracted to the agri-science program, but I was also attracted to the fact that it was a smaller school. Also, since I live in Preston, I would have gone to NFA and been lost in the large class sizes. I definitely think I have found my place here at LHS.

The Colonel: What have you learned from your activities?

Tomis: I have learned to not overcommit myself. I started to overwork myself sophomore year and I had to step back and prioritize the things that I thought I would get the most growth out of.

The Colonel: What college do you plan on attending, and what is your prospective major?

Tomis: I plan on attending UConn. I want to major in general agri-science, but I hope to have my teaching certification by the end of my 5th year.
