Bill Cosby, comedian and father on the sitcom, The Cosby Show, will not be charged in two cases of sexual assault. Two different allegations of sexual assault were evaluated in a Los Angeles courtroom Jan. 6. The trial follows a string of sexual assault claims made by multiple women in 2014 and 2015, although the alleged incidents took place in the 1960s and 70s. On Dec. 30 Cosby was “arrested and charged with a…sex crime last month in Philadelphia” (ABC7 Los Angeles). It was the first time Cosby was charged with misconduct, despite months of accusations and stories made by women. In the Dec. 30 case involving an “ex-Temple University employee” (NBC News) that happened in 2004, Cosby was let out on $1 million bail. Cosby’s new attorney, Monique Pressley, continues to defend the star. In an interview on Good Morning America, Pressley said, “the sheer volume or number of people who are saying a particular thing does not make it true” (E! News). On Jan. 6, former model Chloe Goins accused Cosby of sexual assault from an incident that happened in 1965 when she was 17 years old. The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office ruled that the case was too old and too much time had passed to charge Cosby (NBC News). As for Cosby now, criminal charges are possible but unlikely and more civil cases are plausible.
